Students improve with mental health care

At the start of class, ESC student Cameron felt a growing anxiety that made it difficult to get through his assignment.

Cameron released some of that frustration though after a weekly visit from ESC Mental Health Specialist Sandi Hoover, who came to his classroom at Upper Arlington High School.

“It gives me someone to open up to. It helps release some of that energy and anger,” said Cameron, who suffers from dyslexia. “She’s someone I can trust. I don’t have to keep it in.”

Although still in the early stages, the ESC identified six major initiatives: technology supported learning, shared services, performance management, educator quality, related services deployment and college and career readiness.
